Pros and Cons of the Euro

Readers Question: I am doing some sort of research before the interview in Oxford. Do you know any resources where I can find out about the pros and cons if the UK join the EU?

My personal opinion is that the UK will not join the Euro for the foreseeable future. I wrote why back in 2007 - Why the UK will never join the Euro

Of course, since early 2007, the UK economy has changed. We can no longer boast about having ‘good economic performance.’ However, now we have entered a recession, the desirability of joining the Euro is even less.
The fundamental problem of joining the Euro, is that the UK would simply struggle with having a common monetary policy. At the moment, the UK needs to cut interest rates. If we were in the Euro, interest rate cuts could be hampered because the ECB may be more reluctant to cut rates.
