these suggestions are written with Economics coursework in mind, but, I’m sure they can apply to other subjects. the suggestions can also be used for other types of coursework other than A level coursework.
1. Have a clear Title and objective.
This is the most important task, unless you have a clear objective you will struggle to do a topic well.
2. Make sure you answer the initial objective throughout the coursework.
Too often students lose sight of the initial question and objectives, the coursework then becomes vague and will score a low mark
3. Use a variety of sources
To get a well balanced coursework answer it is important to use different views and opinions.
4. Theory and Empirical Data.
Use economic theory as a starting point before examining empirical data. See whether the date confirms or rejects economic theory.
5. Evaluation
Do evaluate your data and observations. E.g. a TUC document may suggest workers are becoming worse off. But, is it not in their interests to point a negative picture?
Things to Avoid with Coursework
- Don’t cite www.google.com (I have seen it
) - Don’t cite en.wikipedia.org (wikipedia articles often have a good resource of links and references to find information. Cite these sources directly, rather than the intermediary of wikipedia.
- Writing in general non specific terms
- Making up data
- Not putting in any economic theory
