GDP measured by Purchasing Power Parity PPP tried to measure the actual living standards of a country reflecting local living costs. Exchange rates may distort living costs. For example, the Chinese currency is undervalued, this means when we measure GDP in $US output appears lower than when we take into account different living costs.
