The best advice of homework is to try to understand the basic overall framework of the topic before getting into the details. Don't be put off if your understanding is not complete. Homework should be viewed as an opportunity to learn, it is not your final exam.
If one textbook appears incomprehensible try looking at a revision guide which gives the basic overall overview.
On this site there are several economic essays you can read to get an idea of how to answer certain questions.
They are not to be copied! It completely defeats the purpose as well as being wrong. However it is very helpful to read "model" essays to get an idea of how to write. By the way some of the essays on this site could be improved.
