Caveat emptor

Definition of caveat emptor.

This means – let the buyer beware. It means that when buying a property in theory the buyer should take sufficient checks to find out any potential problems.

In practise it is difficult for a buyer to be aware of all the potential problems which might occur in purchasing a new property. For example, a seller may be able to hide structural problems
